Black Hammock is a small community in Seminole County known for wildlife viewing along Lake Jesup. Take SR 46 east from Sanford or west from Mount Dora, or drive I-4 north from Orlando to SR 46 east (about 30 miles). The area stays rural despite being near Orlando, with wetlands and conservation areas throughout. Popular for day trips and airboat tours, it offers authentic Florida wilderness away from the theme parks. Lake Jesup contains an estimated 13,000 alligators, making it one of Florida's densest gator populations.
