Bishop Hill preserves a complete 19th-century Swedish religious commune 45 miles east of the Quad Cities via I-74 and Route 34. This Henry County village of 134 people maintains 15 original limestone buildings from the 1846 Bishop Hill Colony. The Heritage Association operates the sites as living history museums, including the 1848 Colony Church with its original hand-carved wooden pews.
