Big Wells sits along US Highway 83 in South Texas brush country, about 90 miles southwest of San Antonio. This small Dimmit County town of 544 residents serves travelers heading between Laredo and the state capital. Most visitors arrive via US 83, which connects to Interstate 35 near Pearsall, or State Highway 85 from Carrizo Springs. The town takes its name from the large water well that drew early settlers to this location in the 1900s.
