Big Rapids is a college town in west-central Michigan, home to Ferris State University and built along the Muskegon River. US-131 runs right through town, making it an easy drive from Grand Rapids (50 miles south) or Cadillac (35 miles north). The downtown area offers EV charging stations, and the city's name comes from actual river rapids that were tamed by a dam in 1870.
