Betterton is a tiny waterfront town on Maryland's Eastern Shore where the Sassafras River meets Chesapeake Bay. Take Route 50 east from Baltimore or DC, then Route 213 north through Chestertown, and Route 292 west to reach this former steamboat resort. The drive from Baltimore takes about 90 minutes. The town's public beach features one of the few remaining sandy shorelines on the upper Chesapeake Bay.
