Bessemer is a former steel town 15 miles southwest of Birmingham, easily reached via Interstate 20/59. The city sits in central Alabama's rolling hills with a population of 25,400. US Highway 11 runs north-south through downtown, while Route 150 connects to the interstate. Most visitors take Exit 108 from I-20/59, about 20 minutes from Birmingham. The restored railroad depot downtown now serves as a museum highlighting the city's 1800s industrial heritage.
