Benwood hugs the Ohio River in West Virginia's panhandle, accessible via I-70 exits just south of Wheeling. The steel town sits between the river and Appalachian hills, about 45 miles from Pittsburgh. Route 2 follows the riverfront connecting to other Ohio Valley communities. Remnants of the massive Benwood Works steel mill still line the waterfront as monuments to the area's industrial past.
