Benson is a small Johnston County town about 30 miles southeast of Raleigh on Interstate 40. It's a convenient stop between the Triangle and the coast, where I-40 meets US 301. The location attracts both Raleigh commuters and travelers heading to Wilmington or the beaches. The town hosts the annual Mule Days festival each September, featuring one of the East Coast's largest mule shows.
