Benson is a farming town of 428 people in central Illinois, reached via Route 116 about 20 miles northeast of Peoria. Take I-74 to the Route 116 exit and head west through corn and soybean fields. The town keeps its original railroad grid from the 1880s, and freight trains still rumble through the center of town several times each day.
