Benld is a small Illinois coal town about 45 miles northeast of St. Louis, accessible via I-55 to Route 16 west. The community of 1,500 sits along Route 16's east-west corridor and Route 4's north-south path through Macoupin County. Founded in 1911 as a company town, many original company houses still stand along its residential streets.
