Benjamin Perez is a tiny farming community in South Texas's Rio Grande Valley, about 10 miles west of Rio Grande City on US Highway 83. With just 133 residents, it sits in the subtropical border region where mild winters and hot summers define the year. The main route from McAllen takes US 83 west for 45 miles, while visitors from San Antonio drive US 281 south to US 83 west for about 160 miles. The town was named after Benjamin Perez, whose family helped establish this agricultural settlement in the early 1900s.
