Belle Rive is a small farming community of 382 people in southern Illinois, about 15 miles southeast of Mount Vernon along the Kaskaskia River. Most visitors arrive via I-57 from Chicago or I-64 from St. Louis, then take local roads through corn and soybean country. The town's name means "beautiful shore" in French, honoring early French explorers who traveled the nearby Kaskaskia River.
