Belfast is a small coastal Maine city about 20 miles south of Bangor on Penobscot Bay. US Route 1 runs right through downtown, connecting north to Bangor and south to Camden. Route 3 heads east toward Bar Harbor, making Belfast a convenient stop for Acadia-bound travelers. The downtown slopes directly to the harbor where lobster boats still unload their daily catch.
