Bedford, the Lawrence County seat in south-central Indiana, sits in limestone quarry country about 75 miles south of Indianapolis. State Road 37 provides the main north-south route from Bloomington, while US Highway 50 runs east-west through town. The city is famous as the "Limestone Capital of the World" - local quarries supplied stone for the Empire State Building and Pentagon, and you can still see their dramatic stepped walls cutting into the rolling hills.
