Beaver Bay is a tiny lakeside community of 82 people on Lake Superior's North Shore, about 50 miles northeast of Duluth via scenic Highway 61. It's a popular stop for visitors driving the North Shore route between Duluth and the Canadian border, set among boreal forests where the Beaver River meets the lake. The town is home to Split Rock Lighthouse, Minnesota's most photographed landmark, built in 1910 on a dramatic 130-foot cliff.
