Bear Grass is a tiny farming community in eastern North Carolina's Martin County, surrounded by tobacco fields and flat agricultural land. Drivers reach it mainly via US Highway 64, which runs east-west through the county, connecting to Rocky Mount in the west and the Outer Banks to the east. Local roads like NC 125 provide additional access from nearby Williamston, about 15 miles southeast. The community sits in the humid coastal plain where bear grass plants once flourished in the local wetlands.
