Bayboro, the Pamlico County seat, sits on a peninsula where the Neuse River meets Pamlico Sound in eastern North Carolina's coastal plain. Reach it via US 55, which connects west to US 17 near New Bern (30 miles) and east to the Neuse River ferry. The 1858 courthouse remains one of the state's oldest continuously operating courthouses.
