Bayard is a small desert town in southwestern New Mexico, sitting along US 180 between Silver City and Deming. Most visitors pass through on Highway 180 or use it as a jumping-off point for the nearby Gila National Forest. At 4,400 feet elevation, it's high enough for pines but still feels like classic Southwest desert country. The town's painted flag water tower makes a memorable landmark you can spot from miles away.
