Baxter is a small Tennessee town of about 1,400 people right off I-40, about 80 miles east of Nashville. It's basically a pit stop between Nashville and Knoxville, with easy access at Exit 280. Highway 56 runs through town connecting to Cookeville eight miles south, where you'll find Tennessee Tech and most services. The town sits where the Cumberland Plateau starts rising from middle Tennessee's rolling hills. There's a giant concrete dinosaur visible from the interstate that's been greeting travelers since the 1960s.
