Baxter is a small city in central Minnesota's lake country, just north of Brainerd on Highway 371. The area draws visitors to its recreational lakes and serves as a gateway to Minnesota's northwoods. Highway 371 connects south to the Twin Cities and north toward Grand Rapids, while local roads link to the popular Gull Lake and Whitefish Chain areas. Central Lakes College anchors the community and features a working Dutch windmill that still grinds grain during special events.
