Bauxite is a small Arkansas town about 20 miles southwest of Little Rock, reached via I-30 and Highway 183. The community of 846 people sits in rolling pine country where summer heat and humidity give way to mild winters. It's named for the aluminum ore first discovered and mined here in 1887.
