Bath is North Carolina's oldest incorporated town, founded in 1705 along the Pamlico River about 15 miles east of Washington via US 264. This tiny waterfront community of under 400 people sits on a peninsula surrounded by tidal marshes. Most visitors drive through Washington on US 264, then take NC 99 south. The town's historic site includes St. Thomas Church from 1734, which still uses a Bible given by Queen Anne.
