Bath, Maine sits on the Kennebec River about 35 miles northeast of Portland via US Route 1 or I-295. This shipbuilding city of 8,800 people is home to Bath Iron Works, a major naval shipyard. Route 1 connects Bath to Portland and continues north along the coast, while Route 209 leads to Popham Beach. The Maine Maritime Museum preserves the last surviving wooden shipbuilding site in America.
