Bassfield is a small Mississippi town on Highway 35, about 90 miles north of the Gulf Coast in Jefferson Davis County. Visitors typically drive Highway 35 from Jackson (via I-55 and Brookhaven) or from Hattiesburg via Highway 84. The community sits in the pine hills of south-central Mississippi and was named after Bass Cooley, who ran the original general store here.
