Barre sits in central Vermont, 7 miles southeast of Montpelier via Route 62. Take I-89 Exit 7 for direct access, or use scenic Route 14 from the south. The city built its reputation on granite quarrying and still calls itself the "Granite Capital of the World." Hope Cemetery features elaborate granite monuments including a life-sized soccer ball headstone.
