Barnum is a farming town of 250 people in north-central Iowa, sitting on Highway 7 about 15 miles west of Fort Dodge. The area is classic Iowa prairie with corn and soybean fields stretching in all directions. Highway 7 connects directly to Fort Dodge and US Highway 20, while longer trips to Des Moines run about 90 miles via Highway 169. The town's working 1920s grain elevator still dominates the small downtown.
