Barnes is a small farming town in north-central Kansas, accessible via Highway 148 about 15 miles south of Nebraska. Most visitors arrive from US Highway 36 to the north or connect through Salina (60 miles southeast) via state highways. The area's continental climate brings hot summers and icy winters across the rolling prairie landscape. The town's restored 1920s grain elevator complex still operates during harvest season and towers over the surrounding farmland.
