Bancroft is a small Putnam County town of 475 people, sitting 15 miles northwest of Charleston along the Kanawha River valley. Reach it via I-64 west to Exit 28, then Route 34 north. Most visitors fly into Charleston Yeager Airport, about 25 miles away. The volunteer fire department, operating since 1952, serves as both emergency response and community gathering hub.
