Balta is a tiny farming town of 52 people in north-central North Dakota, about 15 miles southeast of Rugby via Highway 3. Most visitors arrive on US Highway 2, then turn south near Rugby. The grain elevator dominates the skyline and serves as a landmark visible for miles across the prairie.
