Balltown is a riverside village of 72 people in eastern Iowa's Dubuque County, about 15 miles north of Dubuque via scenic Highway 52 along the Mississippi River. The community sits on river bluffs in the unglaciated Driftless Area, where rolling hills meet the great waterway. Most visitors arrive on the Great River Road scenic byway or via County Road X56 from inland areas. The village sits directly across from Wisconsin, connected by the Balltown Bridge that's popular with anglers.
