Ballard is a small desert community in northeastern Utah's Uintah Basin, reached via US Highway 40 about 15 miles west of Vernal. The area serves as a quiet stop between Colorado and Salt Lake City, with State Route 121 branching north toward Flaming Gorge. Roosevelt Municipal Airport sits 8 miles southwest. You can still see wagon ruts from the historic Overland Trail carved into the desert near town.
