Balaton is a small farming town of 551 people in southwestern Minnesota's Lyon County. Highway 14 runs through town, connecting west to Marshall (15 miles) and east toward Mankato. Highway 23 provides north-south access through the flat prairie landscape. The town was named after Lake Balaton in Hungary by European railroad settlers.
