Bakersville is a small mountain town in western North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, serving as Mitchell County's seat with about 750 residents. Highway 226 is the main route through town, connecting north to Tennessee and south to Marion. The area sits at 2,400 feet elevation with cooler highland weather and spectacular rhododendron blooms each spring. The town hosts the annual Rhododendron Festival every June, celebrating the wild mountain laurel that blankets the surrounding peaks.
