Avon is a small farming town in southeastern South Dakota, located along Highway 18 about 45 miles southwest of Yankton. The main routes are Highway 18 running east-west through town and Highway 37 providing north-south access to Mitchell and the Nebraska border. Most visitors arrive from Yankton via Highway 18 or from points north on Highway 37. The town's historic concrete grain elevator serves as a prominent landmark visible from miles away along Highway 18.
