Avoca is a small farming town in southwestern Iowa, about 45 miles from Omaha via Highway 83. Most visitors arrive from Interstate 80, taking Exit 40 near Walnut and heading north. The town of 1,400 sits among typical Iowa corn and soybean country. Its 1904 Carnegie library, built with distinctive red brick, remains a centerpiece of the modest downtown area.
