Avilla is a tiny farming town of 70 people in southwestern Missouri's Jasper County. Drive Highway 96 west from Carthage (12 miles) or east from Kansas. Most visitors come from Joplin, 25 miles southeast. The area has rolling hills and farmland typical of the Ozark region. The town's 1902 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a piece of rural Missouri history.
