Avery is a small northeast Texas town of 575 people in the piney woods near the Oklahoma border. US Highway 82 connects it to Paris (25 miles southeast) and the Dallas area (90 miles). Most traffic involves local trips to Paris or long-distance travel on the US 82 corridor between Arkansas and Dallas-Fort Worth. The nearby Gambill Goose Refuge draws thousands of migrating waterfowl each winter.
