Aurora is a farming town of 1,400 people in southeastern South Dakota, sitting 20 miles north of Brookings on Highway 14. Most visitors drive up from Sioux Falls via I-29 and Highway 14, a 45-minute trip through corn and soybean country. The town serves as a rest stop on the cross-state Highway 14 route to Pierre. Aurora's restored 1913 Carnegie library remains one of South Dakota's few still-operating Carnegie libraries.
