Aurora sits along Interstate 80 in central Nebraska, about 75 miles west of Grand Island. Highway 14 runs north-south through downtown, connecting to York and smaller farm towns. Most visitors arrive via I-80, though locals use Highway 34 from the north. The town sits amid rolling farmland and experiences typical Great Plains weather. Aurora calls itself Nebraska's "Chicken Capital" and celebrates with an annual festival featuring Big Red, a 25-foot fiberglass rooster.
