Aurora lies 40 miles west of Chicago along I-88, the main route connecting it to the metro area and points west. Route 59 runs north-south through town, while Route 25 follows the Fox River valley. Popular routes include I-88 east to Chicago suburbs and Route 59 north to Schaumburg. The city earned the nickname "City of Lights" for installing America's first electric streetlight system in 1881.
