Augusta sits about 20 miles east of Wichita along US Highway 54, making it an easy drive from Kansas's largest city. The town serves as a gateway to the Flint Hills region, positioned where the Great Plains start their eastward roll. Most visitors arrive via US 54, while Kansas Highway 196 connects north to Newton and Interstate 135. Augusta Country Club has hosted the Kansas Amateur Golf Championship multiple times since the 1960s.
