Auburn sits in New York's Finger Lakes region at the north end of Owasco Lake, about 25 miles southwest of Syracuse. The city serves as a hub for exploring the wine country and lake communities scattered throughout central New York's rolling hills. Most visitors arrive via I-81 to Route 5 or US Route 20, which runs right through downtown as Genesee Street. Auburn is home to the Auburn Correctional Facility, where the electric chair was first used in 1890.
