Atwood is a farming community of 1,100 people in central Illinois, connected by Route 36 which runs east-west through town. The highway links to Decatur 25 miles west and Tuscola 15 miles east, with I-72 about 10 miles south for longer trips. The town's grain elevator towers over the surrounding cornfields, serving as a landmark visible across the flat prairie.
