Atwater is a farming town of 1,200 people in west-central Minnesota, about 90 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Highway 12 runs east-west through town toward Willmar and the Twin Cities, while Highway 4 connects north to Paynesville. The area features rolling prairie with scattered lakes, cold snowy winters, and warm humid summers. The water tower displays a distinctive Native American chief's head design from 1975.
