Atoka is a small county seat in southeastern Oklahoma, located along US Highway 69 about 90 miles from Oklahoma City. The town sits in rolling hill country where travelers often stop while driving between Dallas and Kansas on the US 69 corridor. Popular local routes include Highway 3 connections to neighboring towns and the drive north to McAlester. The Atoka Museum and Confederate Cemetery preserves the site where Confederate prisoners of war were held during the Civil War.
