Atlanta, a town of about 500 people in north-central Missouri, serves as Macon County's seat despite its small size. Located at the intersection of US Highway 63 and Missouri Route 6, it's about 45 miles north of Columbia and 30 miles south of Kirksville. The town sits amid rolling farmland and features the historic Macon County Courthouse from 1860, one of Missouri's oldest continuously operating courthouses still anchoring the town square.
