Atkinson is a small farming town in northwestern Illinois, about 25 miles from the Quad Cities via Interstate 80 and Route 17. The area features rolling prairie farmland typical of central Illinois, with corn and soybean fields extending in all directions. Route 17 connects east to Princeton and west toward the Mississippi River, while Route 82 provides north-south access. The town's restored 1890s grain elevator still operates during harvest season.
