Assumption is a farming town of 1,200 people in central Illinois, about 30 miles southeast of Springfield via Route 29. Visitors typically exit I-72 at Pana and drive north through corn and soybean country. The town sits in flat prairie with a continental climate and serves surrounding agricultural areas. Its restored 1904 railroad depot houses the historical society and recalls when trains regularly stopped here.
