Ashmore is a small farming town of 721 people in east-central Illinois, about 15 miles southeast of Charleston via Route 16. Most visitors arrive from Interstate 57 through Mattoon, then take Route 16 west for 12 miles through corn and soybean country. The town's restored 1920s grain elevator stands as a prairie landmark visible for miles.
