Armstrong is a small farming town in northern Iowa, about 15 miles from the Minnesota border. Highway 9 runs east-west through town, connecting it to Spencer (25 miles west) and Forest City to the east, while Highway 15 provides north-south access to Estherville. The town of 700 sits among corn and soybean fields in gently rolling prairie country. The restored 1920s Armstrong Community Center serves as the town's main gathering place for events and meetings.
